A Broken and Contrite Heart
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Psalm 51:15
It is important to remember that no matter how well we play, no matter how perfect the mix is, no matter how much people enjoy Sunday morning, the key issue is whether or not God is pleased. And what pleases him is a right posture of the heart. A right spirit before him. One that is humble, repentant, needy, and broken before God. Let’s pray this week that in addition to prepared heads and hands, our hearts are ready to worship the Lord!
Prayer Focus:
Pray for sensitivity to sin
Pray for a deeper humility before God
Pray for a greater sense of the necessity of the cross
Pray for a deeper longing for a fresh taste of God’s mercy and grace
