Membership
Why Church Membership?
Scripture teaches that followers of Jesus are called to join in fellowship with a local church. Membership is:
implied by the biblical metaphors for the church (body, family, temple)
necessary for church discipline (Matt. 18:15-20; 1 Cor 5:12)
assumed in the instructions to elders (1Pet 5:2; Heb 13:17)
and modeled in the early church (Acts 2:41)
Those who are united with Christ spiritually in salvation are also to be united with his people congregationally. Therefore, we understand membership in a local church to be an imperative for disciples of Jesus, and we celebrate the privilege it is to join together in the church.
Membership Process
ENGAGE - We encourage those interested in becoming part of our church to attend weekly worship, engage with our people in small group ministry, and experience life at Redemption Hill for a time before taking the step of membership.
CONNECT - Attenders who are interested in becoming members are invited to meet with one of our pastors. This membership interview allows both parties to ask questions and discuss the requirements, commitments, and benefits of membership.
JOIN - After the pastoral interview, prospective members are asked to sign our church covenant. The final step is for the prospective member to be presented by a pastor to the congregation for affirmation.

FAQ
-
A clear understanding of the gospel, and a personal testimony of faith in Christ.
Baptism by immersion following conversion.
A willingness to affirm the essentials in our statement of faith, and a commitment to uphold the secondary distinctives.
-
While we welcome non-members to attend our church and participate in worship, only members are eligible to serve in any ministry roles, able to vote on congregational matters, and eligible to receive help through our body needs process.
-
No. While we believe membership is weighty and should not be abandoned lightly, there are good reasons to leave a church. Moving to a new community, or a change in conviction on secondary doctrines are valid reasons to resign membership. When this takes place, we encourage people to seek another gospel-preaching church where they can join.
The church may also revoke membership, either for prolonged non-attendance or for disciplinary reasons.
