The Third Commandment: Honor His Name

God's name is important because it speaks to who He is, His essence. Misusing his name misrepresents and scorns his holy, worthy character. We must pay close attention to our words, and thus to our hearts, for it is out of the overflow of our hearts that our mouths speak. As we consider the Third Commandment, let us bring our lives under the sovereignty of God, align our conduct to follow his commands and represent him accurately, and ultimately look to Jesus, who did truly proclaim God's Name rightly in his life, and whose blood covers the guilt we deserve to bear.
