The Requirement of Restitution

Exodus 21:33-22:15 | JD Summers

Restitution offers an application of the 10 Commandments, showing how to rectify situations of theft and injury. Restitution involves paying back what was taken and making it right with the injured party. It is a process for reconciling our horizontal relationships with each other. Our vertical relationship with God, however, can never be made right through restitution, as we could never repay the wrong we have done against God. Praise the Lord then for his act of substitutionary atonement on our behalf!
