A Dead Tree and Living By Faith

The cursing of the fig tree not only illustrates the danger of spiritual hypocrisy and mere externalism, it also provides an object lesson of the power of prayer. As Peter expresses surprise at the immediate withering of the fig tree, Jesus takes the opportunity to teach them, calling the disciples to a genuine faith that experiences the power of God.
