On Sunday we began a study through the book of James. The theme of James is that genuine faith affects all of life, and in chapter 1 James begins by showing us how faith controls our response to trials: faith frees us to respond to trials with joy. By faith we see the value in trials, and we embrace God's purpose in trials. This will require cognitive effort, and spiritual sensitivity, but allows us to experience real joy in the midst of difficulty.

This week we will continue our study through James by examining the exhortation and warning in James 1:5-8. Take some time to read this text, pray for God's help to understand, and consider the following questions:

  • What is wisdom? Why is it necessary?
  • What is the connection between trials (2-4) and seeking wisdom (5-8)?
  • How does "double-minded" clarify what James means by doubting?

Please pray for the preaching of God's word Sunday, that the Spirit would illuminate truth, convict, encourage, strengthen, and produce change in us.

Below are the songs we will be singing together on Sunday. Use this as a resource to learn unfamiliar songs, to meditate on Christ-centered truth throughout the week, and teach your children songs that will fill their minds and shape their hearts.
