What role does Jesus have in your life? In Colossians 2:1-5 we considered how necessary it is to press in to know Christ more deeply. For unity in the community, for solidarity against attacks, for spiritual encouragement, and for everything in our lives, we need Jesus. Do you see him as a nice addition or as supremely necessary for your life here on earth and eternally in heaven?

Spend some time this week reflecting on Christ's role in your life.

Listen to "Spiritual Encouragement in Christ"

This Sunday brings us to Colossians 2:6-15. This section starts to bring together the foundation of truth laid in the previous verses and bring it to application. We are called to live like the type of person God saved us to be. As Paul challenges us to do this, he gives even more description of the realities of salvation and the glorious victory that Christ has achieved over sin, death, Satan, and any human power.

As you prepare for this Sunday, read Colossians 2:6-15 and think about the following questions:

  • What is the word "therefore" in vs. 6 referring to?
  • What are examples of 21st century "philosophy, empty deceit, and human tradition"?
  • What do these verses have to say about the deity and humanity of Christ?
  • What is the relationship between circumcision and baptism?
  • Who are the rulers and authorities mentioned in vs. 14?

Please take a moment in preparation for this Sunday to pray for those God will bring to the service, both believers and unbelievers, and that he will work in their hearts to understand the Scripture and apply it to their hearts. Pray for JD as he prepares and proclaims God's Word, and for the Holy Spirit to work through his words and in the hearts of all who hear. Pray that God would defeat our enemy's attempts to hinder the proclamation of the gospel at Redemption Hill.

Below are the songs we will be singing together on Sunday. Use this as a resource to learn unfamiliar songs, to meditate on Christ-centered truth throughout the week, and teach your children songs that will fill their minds and shape their hearts.
